WHY CHRISTIAN EDUCATION FOR ADULTS?
We believe that faith is more than a Sunday event separated from the world. It is intertwined with the important issues of one’s life as well as the issues facing society in general. Most of these issues have many facets and there are decisions we must make that are not the simple choice between right and wrong that two opposing sides would have us believe. We recognize that each individual situation is unique and that faithful people can reach very different conclusions on an issue. They need a safe place for questioning, learning about, discussing and sharing sensitive topics. And, most of all, they need assurance of God’s love and forgiveness. A vibrant Adult Education program will help create a safe place for talking about the challenges of life.
We believe that churches must be communities of people with strong connections to each other so that those activities can occur. A church is not simply a place where questions can be and are asked and that information is presented, but what is important is the communal nature of the discussions --- the sharing between committed Christians who live in God’s forgiveness and who with the guidance of the Holy Spirit try to put their faith into action by following Jesus’ example of love and justice. Such communal sharing can and will occur in a strong Adult Education program.
