From Here
to Community "is
designed to be a resource for moving individuals and congregations from being
'a gathering of strangers' to being community. The authors, Dick and Judy
Reuning, have created a course with a companion Leader's Guide that enables
the participants to grasp the vision and to take concrete positive steps towards
its realization. They have drawn on a rich reservoir of sociological, psychological,
and above all theological sources. The twelve sessions invite participants
on a journey complete with 'food for the journey,' 'encounters along the way,'
and 'notes for the travelogue.'
...You cannot work through this course without being challenged, affected,
changed.
What is more, your church has the opportunity to become community, that is,
to become the agent for and the witness to God's vision for humanity."
From the Foreword by Walter R. Bouman, Professor Emeritus
of Systematic Theology, Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus OH

A new standard for adult Christian education From Here to Community includes many Encounters Along the Way - stories, dramas, readings, questions, and discussion. These materials are not intended for lecturing. The extensive use of stories and dramas is intended both to educate and to motivate. The question and discussion section, usually based on the story or drama, is the heart of every session. From a learning theory standpoint, the more the leader can involve the participants in the stories, readings and especially the discussion, the more effectively they will learn. The Re-entry section encourages each person to reflect and dig deeper into the topic between sessions at home at his/her own pace. The focus is clearly on the Christian community as a connector that
can prompt us to act faithfully and support us in making choices in
a complex society. The title From Here to Community suggests
movement, and the movement intended is toward Christian individuals
and communities that are more faithful and more effective. The images of the documents below are Adobe's Portable Document Format
